GENERAL EVENT INFORMATION
Who can enter?
From elite international runners to social walkers, the Western Sydney Marathon has a race for all abilities to enjoy. With 4 distances available, all of which lap our picturesque lake, and no age limit on the 5km ‘Lap the Lake’, it is ideal for all backgrounds to enter.
What are the start times of each race?
Marathon – 6.30am
Half Marathon – 7:00am
5km Family Fun Run – 8.30am
10km Lap the Lake – 9:00am
What are the age limits for the races?
Marathon – Participants must be 16yrs or above on race day
Half Marathon - Participants must be 16yrs or above on race day
10km Lap the Lake – Participants must be 12 years or above on race day
5km Family Fun Run - There is no age minimum. Children under 5 years of age on the day of the race participate for free. All age groups must enter to participate in any race.
What does my entry fee include?
Your entry fee includes a custom designed Finisher's Medal, chest plate, timing chip, official race time and downloadable certificate, recovery area (bottled water, fruit and lolly bag) drink stations around the course, access to the expo and on-site medical services, free parking or return transfer from Penrith railway station plus any other offers we can make available between now and race day.
When should I arrive for the race?
It is suggested to arrive at the venue at least 45mins prior to the scheduled start of your race. Venue gates will open at 5am. It is approximately a 15 minute walk from the car park to the event expo area. Please ensure race packs have been collected at least 30mins prior to your race start. Race start calls will be made 15min prior to the start of each race for athletes to head to the course start for a briefing.
When and how can I register and collect my race pack?
Registration is now open online by clicking on the green registration icon.
Early bird entries close June 30th 2017. Regular entry closes September 29th. On the day registration can occur 30 minutes before the commencement of your run. For more information about registration & race packs.
What’s in my race pack?
Race packs contain your chest plate and timing chip.
How much does it cost to participate?

How much does it cost for children?
Children under 5 years of age on the day of the event participate for free. All children must be registered to receive their race bib and Finisher's Medal.
Do families receive a discount?
Families receive a 10% discount on entry fees. To receive the discount create a team with the initial registration then register other family members joining them to your team. Family members must appear on the same Medicare card.
Is there a team rate or discount?
Teams receive a 10% discount on entry fees. To receive the discount appoint a team captain to create a team during registration. The team captain can then invite members to join the team. Only team members who register and join after team creation will receive the discount.
Can I change my event or transfer my entry after registration?
Yes. Simply log back into your registration account and select Actions and follow the prompts. A $10 fees applies for race category changes.
Is it possible to enter Teams for the races?
Yes. You can create teams of up to 20 people during the registration process. Once a team is created you can then invite your friends, family or colleagues to join your team. Each subsequent team member will receive a 10% discount on their entry. Contact us for larger Team entries and applicable discount.
Are there discounts or promo codes available for multiple entries?
Yes. If you registering as a Team (up to 20 people) all team members will receive a 10% discount (this applies for families too). For larger groups or Corporate Teams contact us and we will setup a special promo code for you.
PREPARATION FOR RACE DAY
How much training should I do prior to the race?
The Western Sydney Marathon is designed to cater for athletes of all abilities, however it is suggested individuals train for their desired race distance. If assistance is needed in developing a training program, our event ambassador Brendan Davies from UP Coaching provide world class programs and is based out of the Blue Mountains.
Please put on proper sportswear and running shoes. Remember to put the chest plate on your chest clearly visible at all times during the race to enable race officials to identify your race number.Do I need to report to any official for check in upon arrival on race day?
Upon arrival if you haven’t collected your start pack, register to get your pack at the registration desk then 15min before the start an announcement will be made to join the start line for your category.
START, COURSE & FINISH
Can my friend/s, pet/s or children run with me?
Prams, domestic pets, rollerblades, skates, scooters, skateboards and bikes are not permitted in the marathon, half marathon and 10km events. Domestic pets, rollerblades, skates, scooters, skateboards and bikes are not permitted in the 5km event (prams are permitted in the 5km event).
Will there be cut off times for the races?
Yes. In order to provide an orderly organised competition for participants, the cut off time will be set at 6hrs.
Is the Marathon course very hilly?
No, situated in Penrith, the marathon is held at the Sydney International Regatta Centre which boasts scenic views of Penrith Lakes, Lower Blue Mountains and surrounding parkland. A flat fast course has been designed which navigates the main lake, crosses the island bridges to the Regatta Centre and weaves around roads within and outside of the venue.
Will there be pace runners available on the day?
Unfortunately, pace runners will not be present for the 2017 event.
Will drink stations and a special needs table be available?
There are drink stations strategically located around the courses. A special needs table will also be located at one point along the course. For any special needs requirements please contact us prior to race day. For more information on drink station locations see our course map.
Water and electrolyte drinks will be provided at the water stations along the course and at the finish area. There is also a special needs table (please refer to the course map).
Will there be spray stations to cool down?
Drink stations will be located around the course. There will also be spray stations located on the course (these are not compulsory to run through).
What will happen in the case of extreme weather?
The Western Sydney Marathon Race Director and the SIRC will monitor weather conditions leading up to the event and on race day. In the event of extreme weather conditions a decision, based on the safety of participants and spectators, to continue or modify the event will be made by the event management team.
Will there be any other goodies supplied as part of entering?
Yes, at the recovery station there will be fruit, a bag of lollies and bottled water provided for participants.
Will medical support and first aid stations be available?
Yes, there will be a trained team of Medics onsite for the day. They will have the ability to access anywhere on the course very quickly. Course marshals, located throughout the course, will also be able to assist where required. First aid stations will be located at the Start Area, eastern end of the Competition Lake, Finish Line and the Recovery Area.
Where are the toilets located?
There are permanent toilets and change rooms located on the island at each of the
boat sheds, at the rear of the Spectator Pavilion and in the Finish Tower. Toilets are
also located in the First Aid room.
A permanent amenities block is also located near the start tower at the eastern end
of the Competition Lake. There are permanent toilets located on the southern bank.
Toilets in all locations are accessible for wheelchairs.
CLOAK ROOM AND LOST PROPERTY
Where can I store my bags during the race?
Cloak Room facilities will be offered on event day. The Cloak Room will be located in
the Olympic Room. This room is located at the eastern end of the grandstand.
What do I do if I find lost property and how do I collect lost property?
Lost property can be taken to the Cloak Room. At the end of the event lost items will
be taken to the Venue Management Office. All lost property will be recorded and
logged by Venue Management.
COMPETITION RULES AND REGULATIONS
How do you know the courses are the correct distances?
All four courses are measured and certified by Athletics Australia.
The results will be posted on the Western Sydney Marathon website results page shortly after the completion of the race.
MEDALS AND REWARDS
Do you receive any medals for participating?
Yes, there will be a participation medal awarded to all participants.
Trophies will be awarded to the overall male and female winners of each race.
Will there be any presentations?
Yes. Presentations will commence at 10:30am.
Can I see the official photos that are taken on the day?
Yes, photos will be uploaded to the photo gallery page after the event.
Yes, by entering your chest plate number or last name into the official Marathon Photos box on the Western Sydney Marathon gallery page your photos will be displayed for purchase.
TRANSPORT AND PARKING
Where is the Sydney International Regatta Centre?
The Regatta Centre is located on Old Castlereagh Road, Penrith NSW.
How do I get to the Regatta centre?
There are two modes of transport for the Western Sydney Marathon.
Private vehicles can arrive via Old Castlereagh Road and be directed by parking officials upon arrival. Parking is free.
A free Shuttle buses will be operating a continual loop between Penrith Station and the Sydney International Regatta Centre. The bus will depart from the northern side of the Station approximately every 15 minutes. The first bus will depart Penrith Station at 5.00am. The last bus will depart Penrith Station at 1.00pm.The bus stop is located at Penrith Station Northern Exit.
Will I be able to gain access to the Island?
Yes, pedestrian access is available. Vehicle access to the island will be restricted to Authorised vehicles only.
Is there parking for patrons with disabilities?
Accessible parking spaces will be available in the P3 car park. Patrons will be able to view the event from the Southern Bank. Event staff overseeing this parking area will ensure
adequate space is provided, to accommodate these visitors.
