Brendan Davies – Athlete Profile
Based in the Blue Mountains, Brendan Davies is one of Australia’s most successful and versatile endurance runners. He has a zest for running trails and road, over all distances and terrain. It has been a passion which has taken him around the world as well as to some of the most spectacular locations in Australia over a long and sustaining career.
Brendan has achieved the rare feat of representing Australia in 50km and 100km Road Running, Trail Running and Mountain Running at World Championship level and continues to participate in events ranging from 5km races through to ultra distance events at a competitive level. He has represented his home state of NSW 3 times in the Australian Marathon Championships and in 2015 was NSW Marathon Champion.
His career racing highlights include a Top 10 finish at Western States Endurance Run, Top 5 at Ultra Trail-Mt Fuji, Top 20 at Comrades Marathon, Top 10 at the IAAF/IAU 100km World Championship and numerous domestic wins in Australia, including Ultra-Trail Australia (previously TNF100) and many other trail and road events. He was voted Ultra168's Australian Male Ultra Runner of the Year in 2012, 2015 and 2016.
In the last 4 years, Brendan has dedicated himself to forming and growing his other big passion, UP Coaching, a running group offering coaching services and local training sessions in Western Sydney. UP Coaching has a strong inclusive philosophy and caters for all runners; from those taking their first steps through to the fun runner and elite athlete. Weekly Training Sessions, Individual and Group Training, Online Programming, Trail Running and Race Specific Running Camps, Kids Running Clinics and Technique Analysis are some of the services offered. You may have seen Brendan and his coaching team, together with ‘Uppers’ at many of the local parkruns in the area.
Brendan has participated in the Western Sydney Marathon events since it’s inception as the ‘Lap the Lake Half Marathon’ in 2010 where he was the inaugural winner. Since then he has won the 10km in 2013 and the Marathon in 2015, 2016 and 2018. He will be back to hopefully reclaim the marathon title this year! He is excited to once again be Race Ambassador.
UP Coaching will once again be putting on a series of workshops, titled ‘Run with Confidence’ in the lead in to the Western Sydney events. These are very much geared at the beginner runner or even experienced runners wishing to brush up on their running technique fundamentals. These will all be free and will be hosted prior to the Penrith Lakes parkrun every Saturday morning. Keep an eye on the UP Coaching Facebook page for all details. Everyone is most welcome to attend and Coach Graham Hand, himself a local Penrith resident, is looking forward to working with you all. Coaches will also be putting out a short blog post each fortnight to give you training and race day tips.
